SPECIAL EVENT STATION GB0ESM

In 2002 the then Oulder Hill Amateur Radio Society began making an annual visit to the Ellenroad Steam Museum, usually on the first Sunday in May of each year. This tradition has continued ever since, even when we later moved to Shawclough and became known as the Shawclough Amateur Radio Club. We were again booked to make a visit there on the first Sunday in May 2008, but in January of that year the club joined our friends at the museum on a permanent basis, and re-named ourselves the Ellenroad Radio Club.

Having originally used the special event callsign of GB0ESE (Ellenroad Steam Engine), and later GB0ESM (Ellenroad Steam Museum) we are now pleased to announce that we have been granted this special call on a permanent basis, and will now be operating on all days that the museum is open to the public, which is usually the first Sunday in each month of the year (Steaming Sunday). More information about steaming days can be found on the Ellenroad Steam Museum website at: http://www.ellenroad.org.uk

Our first broadcast as the Ellenroad Radio Club took place on Sunday 4th of May 2008. If you are reading this the chances are that you have probably just made contact with us, or heard us on one of the bands and want to see more information about the station, and the Ellenroad Engine House itself, if so, on this page you will find details about the station, our QSL information, a link to the Museum website, and our archive of photographs from some of our previous visits and the other events that take place here during steaming days. If further details are required you can contact us at the following address: gb0esm at ellenroadradioclub.org.uk (you'll need to replace the 'at' with an @ symbol).

QSL INFORMATION:

QSL cards can be sent via the QSL Bureau, but anyone wishing to receive a 'direct' QSL can send them to our QSL Manager, Alan, G4TMV, whose details can be found on the QRZ.com site. SWL reports are always welcomed, but if you are sending direct reports, return postage or a SAE would be much appreciated. You can also send/receive and electronic QSL from us via EQSL.Net, callsigns G0UQA / GX0UQA / GB0ESM are all registered there.

The HF station should be on air from 1000 to 1600 local (0900 - 1500 UTC), and you'll probably find us on 40 and 20 Metres. Since we also very active in the short wave listening and scanning sides of the hobby too we will also be demonstrating those aspects as well for visitors to the museum at various times. The equipment used by the club consist of a Yaesu Ft-840 Transceiver, with the HF antenna being a half-sized G5RV, fitted with 80 Metre traps. The antenna is at around 40 ft above ground level, and runs above the clubhouse roof.

The museum will be open and in full steam (it's in full steam on the 1st Sunday in every month), and as well as the special event station there will be plenty of other events going on too, details of which can be found on the Ellenroad Museum website. Why not pay the museum a visit if you're within a reasonable range, you won't be disappointed. The museum is easy to reach, and is situated right next to Junction 21 (westbound carriageway) of the M62 motorway. If you do come over do be sure to drop into the shack and say hello, we'll be in the small room next to the Big Engine, and in the caravan on the main car park!

Below you will find the ERC 'GB0ESE/GB0ESM' picture archive, you can also find more pictures of the museum on our: Ellenroad Page. If you'd like to find out more about the Ellenroad Radio Club, you can find us by negotiating your way through the various buttons on this page, or go straight to our home page at: http://www.ellenroadradioclub.org.uk Keep a look out for us and do give us a shout, we'll look forward to working you.
