The club once again operated the special event station GB0ESM on Sunday the 4th of May 2008, but unlike in previous years when we were just there for the day, and had to rush around setting up equipment, and going up on the engine house roof to put up aerials etc., this time it was from our new and permanent shack at the museum, and the first of many such monthly operations during 2008. Propagation conditions were anything but kind this time though, with a very long skip on 40 Metres, meaning that the QRM from the ARI contest was very much in evidence on that band as well, as on 20 Metres. In spite of that we were able to demonstrate the hobby successfully to many visitors, as well as publicise the steam museum, and have a lot of fun. On this page you will find a number of pictures taken during the steaming days in 2008, and this will be added to month by month. As well as pictures of the station we will now also include images of the other events taking place in the museum during these operating days. Also on the calendar this year were the excellent and always entertaining local folk group "The Moonshiners", who also make a visit there in December of every year (and will be doing so again this year). The group gave the visitors great entertainment with their selection of songs, including many of their own numbers, such as the very amusing "It's Grim Up North", which is also the title track of their first album, and also "The Ballad of Ellenroad", which was written about the museum. This album is also on sale at the museum, along with their follow up "Monsters on the Moorland". Proceeds from the sale are all donated to charity, and benefit the museum. |

AND THE WINNER IS........ Doreen herself with this gem (and I'm told the real reason why she was covering her face): "That bloody Clifford has been at the mushy peas again!". |
